Completing Golgra in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Strategies

In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Golgra stands as the formidable Gestral Chief. Unlike her fellow living mannequins who relish combat merely for the thrill, Golgra is recognized as one of the region’s most fearsome fighters. Players who assume they can easily challenge her during their initial visit to the Gestral Village are in for a harsh surprise.

With an extensive HP pool and devastating kick combos, Golgra can take down high-level characters in a single blow. If you decide to spar with her, be sure to come well-prepared.

All Encounters with Golgra

Players have four chances to face Golgra throughout the game. While her attacks remain consistent, her stats are notably toned down during side quest battles. However, players should be ready for a true challenge when they confront her in her hut at the Gestral Village.

The three less demanding encounters with Golgra occur during:

• When you first talk to Golgra at the Gestral Village as Monoco. (This specific fight is separate from a regular duel and is much simpler.)
• During Verso and Monoco’s trip to the Sacred River as part of Monoco’s Relationship Quest.
• In the last round of the Dark Gestral Arena, which can be accessed from the sky in Act 3.

The ultimate challenge against Golgra can be initiated at any time after meeting her in Act 1, simply by approaching her in her hut and proposing a duel. You can select which party member will fight, but it’s advisable to choose someone at Level 80 or 90 to have a fighting chance. For this reason, it’s often best to return toward the end of the game to take her on.

Best Strategy for Defeating Golgra

Golgra’s combos have a slight delay between kicks, making them easier to learn and counter with practice. However, each unblocked hit inflicts significant damage—between five to seven thousand points—meaning any character could be taken out in one hit if they miss a block.

Equip weapons that boost Vitality and/or Defense and maximize those attributes to enhance your character’s durability. Using Recovery Pictos like Second Chance is also crucial, as one mistake could lead to an immediate loss when only having a single character in the fight.

Characters designed to Break and Stun can charge Golgra’s meter multiple times during the battle; every turn she is Stunned is a turn where you don’t need to focus on blocking! Burn effects can also accelerate the fight, but you’ll need to stack them significantly to make a real impact.

Second Phase

After Golgra’s health drops below half, she shifts her fighting style, utilizing longer, more intricate combos. Many attacks are variations of her initial combos, but be particularly wary when she shakes the earth. This maneuver requires a jump counter followed by a gradient counter, which isn’t a common combo in the game, so it may catch you off guard the first time.

Rewards for Overcoming Golgra

Each character that triumphed over Golgra in a duel receives a weapon themed after the Gestral.

These weapons can also be obtained through other means; for instance, the winner of the Gestral Tournament during Sciel’s recruitment earns their Gestral weapon as a prize, and Sakapatates may sometimes drop them as loot. Defeating Golgra in her hut also rewards players with Grandiose Chroma Catalysts and occasional Recoats, making it an efficient way to level up existing Gestral weapons without using additional resources.
