Alternative Cards
This deck can be alternately set up to include Exeggcute and Exeggutor ex in place of some support cards. Exeggutor ex is fantastic since it has low energy cost for attacks while offering high damage and good health. Using two of these cards can help you stall while you build up Beedrill, which can be tricky with Weedle and Kakuna’s lower health.
Beedrill Ex Deck Strategy

The objective of this deck is to quickly evolve Weedle into Beedrill ex and then hinder your opponent’s ability to add energy to their active Pokémon. You’ll utilize two each of Weedle, Kakuna, and Beedrill ex, while the rest of your deck will be support cards.
Starting every match with at least one basic Pokémon means you can kick off with Weedle and use its attack, Multiply, to draw out a second one. With the help of Pokémon Communication, Iono, and Professor’s Research, you can cycle through your deck to ensure you pull out Kakuna and Beedrill ex quickly.
Since Beedrill ex’s attack costs only two energy, it allows for a quick setup. Once established, you can consistently deal damage every turn while keeping it alive with Erika. Use Sabrina or Cyrus to swap out your Knocked Out Pokémon and finish off the opponent with more Crushing Spear attacks.
Even if you’re unable to draw Beedrill ex immediately, Kakuna can sometimes hold its ground for a turn or so. Its String Shot attack has a chance to inflict paralysis, giving you an additional turn to hopefully draw into Beedrill ex.
The Team Rocket Grunt can also be effectively used to discard energy from your opponent’s active Pokémon, making it even harder for them to build energy while you work your strategy.
Deck Matchups

This deck performs exceptionally well against energy-intensive Pokémon like Charizard ex, Giratina ex, or Mewtwo ex, but it can struggle against decks with low energy costs or strong energy generation. Stepping into a match with a lucky Misty or a Moltres with ample energy can put you at a disadvantage.
While the ability to remove energy is crucial, the damage from Crushing Spear is some of the lowest you’ll find on a stage 2 ex Pokémon. This means if energy removal doesn’t disrupt the opponent’s strategy, they’ll likely win in damage trades.
However, when this deck operates smoothly, it creates a challenging situation for your opponent, forcing them to watch as their energy dwindles while they struggle to keep their active Pokémon capable of attacking.
