Sofia is back, and she needs your assistance! To celebrate the arrival of the New Year, Monopoly Go has launched its latest Treasures event. This event runs for four days, kicking off at 8 AM EST on December 31 and wrapping up at 8 AM EST on January 4.
As with previous Treasures events, the New Year’s Treasures event revolves around gathering tools such as pickaxes and chisels, helping treasure seekers uncover hidden treasures! Here’s all you need to know about the New Year’s Treasures event.
How To Play New Year’s Treasures
Where To Get New Year’s Treasures Pickaxes
If you’ve participated in special events in Monopoly Go before, you know that collecting the New Year’s Treasures pickaxes during this event is crucial. You can acquire these essential pickaxes in several ways:
- Join the main event. Typically, events come in two forms, one being the banner event. These usually last between two to three days and can involve collecting tokens or landing on specific tiles. During a Treasures event like this one, pickaxes are given as milestone rewards.
- Take part in leaderboard tournaments. The second type of event you can access is tournament-style. These usually require you to land on Railroad tiles and similarly give you chances to earn more pickaxes.
- Finish your daily tasks. Every day at 8 AM, you’ll receive three tasks that unlock in order. These range from passing Go to upgrading a landmark. When there’s a Treasures event, each completed task will reward you with pickaxes, dice, and cash prizes.
- Claim your rewards from the Monopoly Go store. You can collect these rewards every eight hours. During a Treasures event, pickaxes are included.
- Finally, you can find pickaxes directly in the Treasures event itself.
Using Pickaxes to Dig for Prizes
Equipped with a solid supply of pickaxes, it’s time to start digging! As you enter the New Year’s Treasures event, you’ll see a grid filled with sand and stone, with an outline of the treasure you’re searching for above it. Each pickaxe you use will clear one tile. Pay attention to the outline and select the tile carefully.
The treasures will differ in size and shape, just like the grids themselves. Your mission is to unearth them all to advance to the next level. The event ends on January 4th, so you’ll want to gather as many rewards as possible in that time.
Rest assured, there are great rewards in store! This event is an excellent opportunity to collect stickers for your album, gain plenty of dice, and earn some unique prizes, including a shield and a token.

Just like in past events, the “Cash Reward” is determined by your total net worth. To boost your net worth, upgrade landmarks and clear maps. The further you advance, the higher your net worth becomes.
