While playing Mage Arena, you can participate in various Player vs Player (PvP) matches against friends or random players. The goal is to defeat all opponents and capture their flag. Both you and your opponents start with the same two items and spells.
There is an easy way to gain an advantage, which is through crafting. Depending on the resources you combine, you can craft many useful items that influence the game. Here’s how crafting works in Mage Arena.
Mage Arena is currently available on Steam in Early Access, and features may change over time.
### How to Craft in Mage Arena
Mage Arena functions a lot like a battle pass system. You begin each game only equipped with your spell book and a torch. All other items must be crafted. You craft items by combining two specific resources, which can be found inside chests or by defeating small goblins that carry items. These goblins will deliver resources to bases unless you defeat them beforehand. Once you have the necessary resources, you can craft items at your base by interacting with the tree trunk there.
You can also trade items with dwarves if you find yourself in certain biomes, which can help you gather basic materials.
When at the tree trunk, equip an item in your hand and place it on the trunk. Combining any two items will produce a new item based on the recipe book located nearby. The basic materials you can use for crafting include Rock, Log, Crystal, Bounce Mush, and Toad.
### Every Crafting Recipe and What it Does
The recipe book beside the tree trunk can be hard to read, so here’s a simple table explaining how to craft each item and their effects:
| Item Name | Ingredients | What It Does |
|————————|———————————-|——————————————————————————-|
| Mushroom Swerd | Bounce Mush, Rock | Can hit players (teammates or enemies) to make them jump high and take fall damage. |
| Ray Of Shrink | Bounce Mush, Crystal | Shoots a ray that shrinks a target and makes their voice sound like helium. |
| The Orb | Two Crystals | Lets you see an enemy’s perspective and shows the biome they are in. |
| Mushroom Man | Two Bounce Mush | Follows you, and by jumping on its head, you can jump high. It can be moved to follow others. |
| Levitatior | Crystal, Log | Makes someone levitate for as long as you want. You can also use it on yourself to go high and float. |
| Spore Frog | Toad, Bounce Mush | Creates a smoke area, useful for escaping enemies. |
| Frog Stick | Toad, Log | Hitting with this causes players to drop whatever they’re holding. |
| Golem | Crystal, Rock | Follows you and attacks enemies who come into its line of sight. |
| Thrumming Stone | Two Rocks | Stops incoming projectiles but has a long cooldown. |
| Frogleather Blade | Toad, Rock | A simple attack dagger for fighting enemies. |
| Walking Stick | Two Logs | Increases your movement speed. |
| Silverseed Bramble | Rock, Log | Creates spikes on the ground that deal damage to anyone walking over them. |
| Frog Balloon | Two Toads | Allows high jumps and slows your fall. |
| Dart Gun | Toad, Crystal | Inverts controls of anyone you hit with it. |
| Fungal Walking Stick | Bounce Mush, Log | Increases jump height and speed. |
Note that these items are listed in the same order as they appear in the recipe book near the tree trunk.
