After a long wait, Neverness to Everness is finally here, offering us that anime-inspired, GTA-like experience we’ve all been eager for since it was announced. Now, we can explore its rich world filled with lovable characters whom we’ll tirelessly grind to unlock through the gacha system. And if that wasn’t enough, the exciting combat system will keep you hooked as you face increasingly tough and intimidating enemies.
While the combat may seem simple at first glance, there are many important details to understand before diving in. Mastering these aspects can be tricky but offers great rewards. Nothing beats landing a perfect parry or dodge, then quickly following up with powerful attacks, and finishing with a flashy, high-damage Ultimate move.
Don’t Overlook the Basics
Starting out, basic attacks are crucial to building effective combos in Neverness to Everness. They help fill your different meters, deal decent damage, and set up stronger abilities. A typical combo will be your basic attack string, followed by a skill, then your ultimate, gradually increasing damage until you unleash your ultimate attack.
Sometimes, you may find yourself without skills ready or your ultimate still charging. During these moments, you should either play defensively or rely on the Esper Cycle System. Focusing on this system is essential because it can carry battles and lead to victory.
Esper Cycles Are Key to Winning
Esper Cycles happen when your team members, powered by neighboring elements, can swap out once their Esper Gauge is full. This swap triggers an Elemental Reaction, causing significant damage and providing battle bonuses. If two Espers with compatible elements react, that’s called a Duo Cycle. In some cases, you can even trigger a Triple Cycle for even more powerful effects.
Building your team with Esper elements that react well together is helpful. Landing basic attacks, skills, ultimates, critical dodges, and parries fills your teammates’ Esper Gauge. When it’s ready, their portrait flashes on the screen, allowing you to switch characters and unleash powerful reactions.

Keep in mind, having neighboring Esper elements in your team helps maximize damage and benefits. In tough fights or boss battles, focusing on elemental weaknesses and strong team setups will give you an edge. Getting familiar with the Parry mechanic is also recommended, as it can cause the largest amount of damage to an enemy’s Break Meter.
Learn Attack Patterns
Understanding enemy attack patterns is vital for success, especially in later game content. Early on, it might be okay to mash buttons, but as enemies become faster and more aggressive, recognizing patterns and responding accordingly becomes essential.
Before each tough fight, especially against bosses, observe their moves carefully. Memorize their telltale signs—for example, if a boss raises its arm high before a parryable attack, be ready to parry each time. If it performs a sweeping attack after raising a different limb, learn to Critical Dodge to avoid damage. Building this muscle memory will make a huge difference in higher levels of difficulty.
In summary, mastering attack timing, elemental reactions, and enemy behaviors will allow you to dominate combat. As you get more comfortable with these mechanics, you’ll recognize patterns instantly and counter effectively. Keep practicing, and you’ll find yourself clearing battles with greater confidence and ease.
