When you ask a group of ten fans of Tales of Graces what they love most about the game, there’s a good chance at least eight will mention its combat system. Even though the game has been around for a while, many players still regard its battle mechanics as among the very best. Some enthusiasts even claim it features some of the finest RPG fighting ever designed.
No matter where you stand on that debate, Tales of Graces f Remastered delivers all of this and even enhances the experience. Before you dive in, here are some useful tips to guide you in the beginning stages of the game.
Focus on Titles
One key aspect of character development in Tales of Graces f is the various titles that you earn throughout your adventure. Although this might seem restrictive, it’s quite the opposite; each character can accumulate well over 100 titles!
Many titles are obtained by completing specific tasks, such as side quests, defeating a set number of enemies, or executing certain Artes. Other titles are acquired automatically when you hit specific milestones in the main storyline.
Keep an eye on the abilities associated with each title, as some will unlock new Artes. Many new Artes are tied to story progress, so it’s vital to explore them to maximize your attacks and healing options early on.
Don’t Rush to Master Titles
Early in the game, you’ll be advised to switch titles once you’ve learned all their abilities instead of waiting until you’ve mastered them. We completely agree. While mastering a title does provide added benefits, the process requires a significant amount of Skill Points (SP), which can take a long time to grind for. Focusing solely on mastering a title means sacrificing the opportunity to acquire new abilities and stat enhancements.
That said, once you’ve switched titles, you can always return later in the game to master them if you wish!
Switch Artes During Combat
It might take some players longer to discover this feature than others, but it can certainly enhance your gameplay. While battling, if you find yourself limited by the number of Artes you’ve assigned to your character, remember: you can actually adjust your set mid-combat.
By accessing the Artes menu during a fight, you’ll see the same list of B-Artes you encounter in the main menu. This is your chance to swap in other Artes you’ve learned if you’re struggling against a tough enemy.
It might feel a bit awkward at first, but this option can really help during challenging moments in a battle.
Customize Your Controls
We’ve mentioned this in our Beginner Tips, but it’s worth elaborating on. While the default controls in Tales of Graces f may work for some, they might feel restrictive to others. Luckily, there’s a straightforward way to alter them.
The game offers extensive remapping options. You can change any button assignment, allowing you to adjust the controls to fit your play style. For example, I found it more comfortable to swap the block button from square to R1 on my PS5 controller, making it easier to access other buttons for actions like A-Artes and B-Artes.
This simple adjustment improved my blocking capabilities in combat without hindering my attack timing.
Check Enemy Information Regularly
In Tales of Graces f Remastered, you don’t need to manually inspect enemies to view their information. Instead, pressing the target info button will reveal their weaknesses and often their maximum HP.
This feature differentiates this game from many other RPGs, making it crucial for capitalizing on enemy weaknesses. Since you can switch Artes during battles, it’s a good idea to keep track of these details to enhance your combat strategy.
Additionally, you can review enemy information outside of combat through the Enemy Book. This will give you a brief description, and a quick press of a button will provide you with more specifics about their combat characteristics.
These tips should guide you through the early stages of Tales of Graces f Remastered and help ensure you get the most out of your gameplay experience!
