Even within the same Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 weapon category, different guns have varying strengths. Assault rifles are especially flexible, but the best setup for the MXR-17 is quite different from what works best with the AK-27. Below, you’ll find a guide to the best attachments, gear, and perks to use with the MXR-17.
Unlocked at level 16, the MXR-17 is the third assault rifle you’ll access after the game’s launch. Compared to the AK-27, the MXR-17 has better base stats, but it comes with a couple of immediate drawbacks: it has very strong vertical recoil and a small magazine size. The recoil can be easily managed, but you’ll want to build your loadout around the magazine capacity.
Best Attachments for the MXR-17 in Black Ops 7
The MXR-17 can be turned into an effective weapon for mid- to long-range combat. You’ll want to stay back from the action on multiplayer maps, but it works well in larger 40-player modes like Skirmish. Here’s what I recommend for attachments:
-
Optic: Redwell 30-S 2x or Greaves AccuSpot 3x.
The choice depends on your play style and game mode. The 3x scope is great for Skirmish, but if it slows down your aiming speed more than you’d like, go with the 2x instead. -
Muzzle: Redwell-90 Compensator
Greatly reduces vertical recoil, making it easier to stay on target. -
Barrel: 18″ Rift-M7 Barrel
Extends the effective range of the gun. -
Underbarrel: Sentry Pro Handstop
Helps reduce sway when aiming at distant targets, improving accuracy. -
Rear Grip: Fissure Grip
Improves the first-shot recoil, giving you better control over vertical kick.
With these attachments, your MXR-17 will be more precise at mid-range and beyond. However, it won’t handle as well in close quarters, so avoid rushing into tight spaces. Instead, focus on surviving and supporting your team with scorestreaks.
Best Equipment to Use with the MXR-17
Once you unlock the MXR-17, pair it with the Coda 9 pistol. Use attachments that help control its recoil and speed up reloads. The Coda 9 will be your backup for close-range fights. Although the MXR-17’s small magazine makes it less suitable for frantic battles, having the Coda 9 handy can save you. Your melee weapon choice doesn’t significantly impact your loadout; bring whatever you’re most comfortable with.
For your equipment, I suggest:
- Wildcard: High Roller (gives you an extra perk slot)
- Field Upgrade: Squad Link (boosts your team’s score generation)
- Tactical: Stim Shot (keeps you alive longer)
- Overclock: Combat Performance (reduces the cooldown of Scorestreaks)
- Lethal: Point Turret (detects enemies behind you)
- Overclock: Gyroscopic Stabilizer (stabilizes your turret faster)
High Roller and Squad Link are essential. Keeping enemies at a distance helps you survive longer, increasing your chances to earn Scorestreaks. High Roller lets you select a fourth perk, and Squad Link boosts score gains for you and your teammates. The Stim Shot keeps you alive in tight situations, and the Point Turret gives you intel on enemy positions—both help you earn more Scorestreaks. Feel free to swap these out if you prefer different gear.
Best Perks to Use with the MXR-17
The ideal perks are:
- Perk 1: Gearhead – allows you to switch between field upgrades faster and keeps them active longer.
- Perk 2: Fast Hands – helps you reload faster and switch weapons quicker, crucial given the small magazine.
- Perk 3: Charge Link – boosts your scorestreak recharge rate and provides bonus points for teammates using their field upgrades nearby.
Gearhead and Charge Link maximize your field upgrades and score frequency, making you more effective in support roles. Fast Hands compensates for the small magazine size, letting you finish off enemies or reload quickly in gunfights.
With this setup in Black Ops 7, you’ll have a versatile and powerful loadout that excels at mid to long ranges, supports your team, and helps you earn rewards efficiently.
