While the main feature of Ball x Pit is its quirky roguelite gameplay involving Brick Breaker mechanics, an equally important part of the game is managing your town. After the opening scene where Ballbylon is destroyed, your goal is to build its replacement, called New Ballbylon. You need to create homes for new characters, build structures that give passive bonuses, and set up resource tiles for harvesting.
Since the management system is very flexible, there’s no one best arrangement for New Ballbylon. Some parts of the management become automated as you progress, but even in the later stages of the game, I often find myself reorganizing my village. Below are some key tips to help you design a more effective base in Ball x Pit.
Create a Dedicated Harvest Area
Always have one specific spot for gathering resources. After each run, you’ll return to the top of the pit, where you get a free harvest. However, you’ll quickly run out of space, so expanding your village is necessary. When you do, some areas will get cluttered. Your harvest can only start from a designated zone in front of the lift, so make sure your economy tiles are arranged there.
Once you expand, surround resource tiles with buildings to prevent workers from bouncing around aimlessly. Also, build some Gold Mines in your harvesting zone, but leave enough room for workers to move easily around them. These mines will provide additional gold and help keep your resources balanced.
As you unlock new structures like the Gatherer’s Hut, you can set up additional harvesting zones away from the original. These should also be surrounded by buildings, but keep their size smaller — only one worker will gather resources here.
Support your resource collection by constructing Farms, Lumberyards, and Stone Mines early on. They automatically gather resources and support your overall economy. Keep track of your resource levels to see which ones you’re running low on and adjust your resource tiles accordingly.
Organize Around Key Buildings
Pay special attention to specific structures that boost your progress. The Veteran’s Hut and the Mansion are crucial as they provide experience and gold bonuses.
The Veteran’s Hut appears early and unlocks an important character. Hovering over the building shows the zone where nearby housing will give experience boosts. Organize your houses so they touch this zone, which helps your characters level up faster. Upgrading the Veteran’s Hut makes your characters’ stats grow more quickly.
The Mansion, which is the Spendthrift’s home, should be placed close but compact, often near the Veteran’s Hut. This building automatically generates a lot of gold, so try to fit as many buildings as possible within its effective area. Ideally, place your harvest zone along one side of the Mansion, allowing some buildings to serve two purposes.
Other buildings like the Haunted House, Captain’s Quarters, Iron Fortress, and Monastery have specific effects. While they are less critical than the Veteran’s Hut and Mansion, they can still provide useful bonuses if placed thoughtfully, especially early in your game.
Be Flexible and Reconfigure Often
Rearranging your buildings and resource tiles is cost-free, so don’t hesitate to move things around as needed. Having extra space allows you to reorganize smoothly, and you can keep buildings off to the side temporarily if you’re optimizing your layout.
There’s no need to expand your area unless necessary, but having some surplus negative space gives you room to experiment. Group your base into main zones: the harvest area, passive harvest zones, and other structures. Moving your tiles and buildings around regularly makes your setup more efficient over time.
Build and Upgrade Before Harvesting
Before you start your free harvest after each run, always build and upgrade structures needed for scaling. Construction requires workers, so don’t begin harvesting until you’ve made the most of available upgrades and new buildings.
After returning from the pit, check what new buildings and upgrades are available. Purchase as many as possible and place scaffolds around your harvest zone to maximize benefits. Investing in upgrades like the Jeweler, Matchmaker, or Gem Smith is especially helpful for late-game scaling, as they improve your characters and resource gathering.
While progressing, keep in mind that a good base layout can greatly support your overall growth, but there’s no perfect formula. As you unlock more passive buffs and new characters, your chances of winning increase, making it easier to succeed without stressing over the perfect arrangement.
By keeping your village organized, flexible, and focused on key buildings and resource zones, you’ll improve your efficiency and have more fun building your town in Ball x Pit.
