There have been many popular choice-based games over the years, but Tides of Tomorrow stands out because it adds a new twist. In this game, your decisions are influenced by choices made by a previous player you choose to follow. These previous choices can alter the outcome of certain story parts, making each playthrough unique.
Aside from the decisions of other players, your own choices also shape the story significantly. When you make decisions, you also have the opportunity to boost one of five traits in the game. Over time, these traits reflect the style of your gameplay and can even unlock special benefits.
How Traits Work in Tides of Tomorrow
Once you start a new game and decide which player to follow, you’ll see the five traits displayed on the main menu. At the beginning, these traits have no points, but they gradually grow as you make choices during your run.
The two traits with the highest points are shown separately at the top. These are the traits that will be visible when another player picks your game to start their own run. When selecting a player to follow, you can also view their top two traits.
Note: The traits shown don’t always tell the whole story about that player’s decisions in specific locations. For example, you might choose to follow a character who generally supports humanity but end up with them making questionable decisions in some situations.
Each trait’s progress is shown on a bar divided into three sections. Moving across these sections adds points to the trait. When the entire bar fills up, you become a master of that trait and earn a special title, like “Savior of Mankind” or “Master of Survival.”
Besides being displayed on your profile, traits grant access to exclusive dialogues, especially in the later parts of the story. While you can succeed without these dialogues, having them can boost your reputation and make achieving some goals easier.
Tip: Near the end of the story, having high levels in certain traits can unlock special interactions, enhancing your overall experience.
All Traits and How to Increase Them
Now that you understand how traits influence gameplay, it’s helpful to learn what each one means and how to grow them. Each trait requires different strategies, so here’s what you should know:
| Trait | Description | Main Method to Increase |
|---|---|---|
| Pro-Mankind | Focuses on decisions favoring human survival against plastemia. | Make choices that help humanity throughout your adventure. |
| Pro-Nature | Represents a desire to protect nature, especially Mereids and Ozen plants. | Choose options that save or protect nature, like freeing the Matriarch. |
| Cooperative | Shows how much you assist other Tidewalkers who come after you. | Donate ozen and scraps from chests when possible. Stack rocks on rock piles. |
| Survivalist | Reflects how much you prioritize your own survival. | Take ozen or scraps from chests and select choices that keep you alive. |
| Troublemaker | Indicates how often you cause chaos instead of helping others. | Break rock piles you find and pick options that trigger chaos. |
Knowing how to boost each trait allows you to tailor your run’s style and can influence the ending outcome of the game.
