Surviving in My Winter Car depends on managing your character’s needs before they become critical. It’s especially tough given the cold Finnish weather, extreme temperatures, and a tendency toward alcohol addiction, making survival a challenge.
Luckily, there are attribute bars on the top left of your screen that show how you’re feeling and how close you are to danger. If any attribute stays in the red zone for too long, your character could die, and you’ll lose progress. There are seven main attributes to keep an eye on, along with cash, which isn’t a life-or-death factor but still important:
- Problem
- Hunger
- Stress
- Urine
- Fatigue
- Body Temperature
- Sweat
Your character’s attributes are displayed in the top left corner and fill slowly in white, then turn red when danger increases. If an attribute turns red for too long, it puts your life at risk.
There are also three hidden attributes that don’t directly cause death but influence your main stats:
- Drunkenness: Causes sway and blurred vision; your weight affects how quickly you become drunk.
- Weight: Affects walking speed, thirst, drunkenness rate, and vehicle physics depending on if it’s high or low.
- Dirtiness: Attracts insects, which constantly fly around you; showering reduces dirtiness.
Problem Attribute
This replaces the thirst meter from My Summer Car. Now, the main liquid your character craves is alcohol, which rapidly drains this bar. Drinking regular water or milk has little effect, especially if you’ve been drinking heavily. Managing this involves balancing alcohol intake to keep the bar from emptying too quickly.
Alcohol consumption increases the Problem bar, complicating survival.
If your Problem bar hits 200%, your character will die from dehydration. Drinking non-alcoholic drinks like milk can slow this down, but as your drunkenness rises, their effectiveness diminishes. Being in a sauna or wearing warm clothes also speeds up this bar.
Hunger Attribute
Hunger increases slowly and can be reduced by eating food bought from stores like the pub or gas stations such as PSK. Foods like grilled moose meat or sausages are most effective. If you leave hunger unchecked and it turns red, your character will die from starvation.

Eating restores hunger and prevents starvation.
Stress Attribute
Stress rises gradually but can be quickly reduced with different actions. Avoid situations such as getting traffic tickets, losing your job, losing card games, failing vehicle inspections, or having a hangover, as these increase stress levels. You can quickly lower stress by drinking alcohol, passing vehicle inspections, swearing, drinking caffeine, eating meat, smoking, chopping firewood, or speeding.

Quick stress relief methods include drinking alcohol and other activities.
If stress becomes too high, particularly entering the red zone, your character may have a breakdown—reacting with shouting, swearing, and ultimately risking death.
Urine Attribute
Excessive drinking leads to increased urine levels. If your character doesn’t urinate regularly, they risk dying from a burst bladder. Manually press P to urinate anywhere you like before it becomes dangerous.

Regular urination is vital for survival with heavy alcohol intake.
Fatigue Attribute
Sleep is essential; if your fatigue level gets too high, your character might black out and cause an accident. If this happens, shaking the mouse can wake them up temporarily, but finding somewhere to sleep is necessary to fully recover.

Sleep restores energy and is also part of the save mechanic.
Sleeping in your bed, on benches or sofas, or even in the back of the Gifu truck helps reduce fatigue. Drinking caffeine, although addictive and increasing fatigue if overused, also helps manage tiredness. Speeding in your car can also decrease fatigue temporarily.
Temperature Attribute
The extreme cold has a significant effect: staying out in the cold for about 15 minutes can cause hypothermia, leading to death. Wearing warm clothes, being inside heated areas, and taking hot showers can prevent this. Outside, in the brutal winter conditions, your warmth will diminish quickly, so avoid prolonged exposure.
Sweating Attribute
Entering heated buildings while dressed warmly causes rapid sweating, which then cools your body when back outside in the cold. The only way to reduce sweat is by showering to cool down and preserve your body temperature.
Additional Hidden Attributes
Beyond the main ones, your character has three hidden traits that influence gameplay:
- Drunkenness: Affects movement and vision, influenced by alcohol consumption and weight.
- Weight: Impacts speed, thirst, drunkenness, and vehicle physics.
- Dirtiness: Attracts insects; showering reduces dirtiness.
Managing each of these attributes carefully is key to survival, especially under the ruthless winter conditions of Finland.
