Updated February 24, 2026 by Zoë J. Osik: We’ve refreshed our guide to improve clarity and include more details about different bugs. Plus, you can learn how to level up past hobby level ten!
How to Catch Insects
Before you can start catching bugs, you need to unlock the Insect Catching Hobby by progressing further in the story missions and completing town objectives. Once unlocked, Naniwa will give you a bubble net that launches bubbles to catch bugs.
You can tap the input quickly to send a bubble in the direction you’re facing, or hold down the input (or click and hold with your mouse) to quietly move slowly toward the bug in stealth mode. Charging the bubble allows you to aim more precisely and catch the bug rather than shooting randomly.
Tip: Some insects are easily frightened and will fly away if you get too close. Use a charged throw to catch them more easily.
When you succeed in catching bugs, you can sell them to Albert Jr. or display them in Vivariums around your home for easy viewing.
All Insect Catching Hobby Skills
As you upgrade your bug-catching skill, you’ll unlock new abilities to catch bugs more efficiently and new tools to attract rare bugs. These include:
- Netting Skill: Extends the reach of your insect net so you can catch bugs from farther away.
- Insect Quality: Boosts the chances of catching bugs with higher ratings.
- Insect Net Maintenance: Improves how long your net lasts before needing repair.
- Double Catch: Increases the chance of catching two bugs at once.
- Inflatable Insect Attractor: Purchased from Naniwa to lure certain bugs.
- Sense Booster: Also from Naniwa, making bug catching easier.
All Insects and Where to Find Them
Bugs can be found at any time of day and in various weather conditions. The rarer bugs are tougher to find, but each new discovery adds bonus points to your journal, especially if you find record-breaking specimens.
Bugs appear across four time periods matching your local hours:
- Dawn: 12:00 AM – 5:59 AM
- Morning: 6:00 AM – 11:59 AM
- Afternoon: 12:00 PM – 5:59 PM
- Dusk: 6:00 PM – 1:59 AM
There are 76 insects to find as you upgrade your hobby. Here’s a list of some bugs you’ve been able to catch so far:
Note: Not all bugs are available initially due to game progress limits. The list will be updated as more insects are discovered.

How to Increase Your Bug Catching Level After Ten
Once you reach level ten in bug catching, normal hobby expansion tickets no longer work for upgrading. To advance further, you’ll need premium hobby expansion tickets.
These tickets are only obtainable once you reach D.G. Member level 50 or higher. Progress there requires daily logins and completing requests to earn enough badges to level up. Keep playing consistently to unlock the highest levels in your bug-catching skill.
