Final Fantasy XIV has rolled out Patch 7.1, introducing new features such as the first tier of the latest Alliance Raid, an expansion of the Main Scenario Quest (MSQ), fresh crafting materials like Royal Damask, new recipes, and more. Royal Damask, specifically, could prove challenging to acquire. Since it is required for just one recipe, it’s not surprising that gathering it yourself could be a lengthy process if you choose not to buy it.
In addition, Echoes of Vana’diel lets players delve into the world of the original MMORPG in the Final Fantasy series: Final Fantasy XI. Without revealing too much, this crossover features a raid that is packed with nostalgia for those familiar with FFXI. It’s understandable if you feel the urge to furnish your home or apartment with items that pay tribute to FFXI, especially now that it’s achievable—provided you’re ready to either put in the time or spend a significant amount of Gil.
How to Obtain Royal Damask in FFXIV Patch 7.1
Step into Jeuno: The First Walk
To secure Royal Damask, your journey begins in the Echoes of Vana’diel Alliance Raid. This is the exclusive area where Royal Damask can drop, and you’ll need to fulfill these prerequisites to start the quest that opens up the first tier:
- Reach Level 100 in either a Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic job.
- Complete the 7.0 Dawntrail MSQ.
- Achieve an item level of 695 or higher.
Once you meet these criteria, head to Tuliyollal and speak with the Hoobigo Messenger near the main Aetheryte in the city. He will give you the quest called An Otherworldly Encounter, requiring you to journey to Mamook and chat with Miilal Ja, the mother of Bakool Ja Ja. You will need to finish a few more quests involving discussions with various NPCs and watch a couple of cutscenes to unlock Jeuno: The First Walk.
Now that you’re in the raid, there are further challenges to contend with when trying to snag that coveted Royal Damask. First, the waiting time to enter the raid can fluctuate based on when you log in, making it more beneficial to attempt farming Royal Damask during some periods than others. This can be tricky due to the varying time zones and player patterns. In the interim while waiting in line, you can engage in other tasks, like leveling your fishing skill to unlock the Major-General minion.
Next, even if you make it into the raid, there’s no assurance that a piece of Royal Damask will actually drop. Its drop rate is fairly low, resulting in a scarcity of the material. Additionally, even if it does drop, you’ll need to compete with other players for it. Given the combined challenges, farming Royal Damask truly tests your patience and determination. Therefore, you might want to consider checking the Marketboard to see if Royal Damask is available for purchase, along with its price.
What to Use Royal Damask For in FFXIV
Royal Damask is necessary to create the Royal Bed, a crafting recipe available to Carpenters at Level 100. You can find this recipe in the Indoor Furnishings section of your crafting menu. The complete list of materials you’ll require includes:
- 32 Wind Crystals
- 32 Ice Crystals
- 1 Royal Damask
- 3 Dark Mahogany Lumber
- 3 White Gold Ingots
- 3 Thunderyard Silks
- 3 Ancient Lumbers
- 3 Rubies
It’s important to note that while it cannot be crafted as a high-quality item, you still need 4207 Craftsmanship to create it successfully. After crafting the Royal Bed, you can set it up in your house or apartment or list it on the Marketboard for profit. On Balmung, for instance, these sell for just under 5 million Gil. However, since Royal Damask typically sells for nearly 4 million Gil, buying it to create the Royal Bed will eat into your potential profits.
Crafting within MMOs can often be overwhelming, yet creating an ideal virtual space when player housing is available can be very rewarding. Depending on your willingness to invest time or Gil, acquiring Royal Damask to craft the Royal Bed can either be a long endeavor or quite costly. At least Jeuno: The First Walk offers enjoyable music and mechanics that make repeated runs in Final Fantasy XIV a bit more enjoyable.
