If you’re gearing up for your adventure in Elden Ring Nightreign, we’ve gathered essential tips to help you take down the Nightlords. From key strategies for team combat to advice on traversing Limveld, there’s plenty you might overlook when diving into this game. By learning how each character operates, discovering your preferred weapons, and understanding where to head next, you’ll set yourself up for success. After countless successful runs, we’ve identified 12 vital tips that will boost your chances, even if you’re a seasoned player.
1. Make Reaching Level 2 Your Top Priority
This might seem straightforward, but your initial goal should be to escape level 1, as the difference in power between levels 1 and 2 is huge. At level 1, you’ll struggle to defeat anything other than the weakest enemies. Thankfully, the game usually drops you near a camp of these easy foes, perfect for gaining experience and leveling up. Clear them out efficiently so you can face tougher opponents.
2. Don’t Challenge Bosses Until You’re Level 4 or 5
While it’s theoretically possible to defeat bosses at any level, you’ll likely find yourself outmatched until you hit level 4 or 5. Your specific weapon choice and the difficulty of the boss will influence this, of course. Unlike the main game where you can take your time against bosses, Nightreign imposes a time limit. So, if a fight feels overwhelming, it’s wise to retreat and power up instead of risking repeated deaths.
3. The Shrinking Circle Is Faster Than It Looks
From a distance on the map, the shrinking circle may appear slow, but it moves quickly in reality. Early on, be careful about how long you commit to battles near the circle’s edge. If you’re uncertain about a confrontation’s outcome, it might be best to retreat to a safe area.
4. Plan Your Escape Route to Avoid Getting Trapped
Nightreign features a vertical map with many cliffs and steep areas. This can lead to getting cornered if you can’t find a way around quickly. While familiarizing yourself with the route helps, look for Spiritsprings—marked on your map—that can launch you into the air. These are your best bet for navigating quickly. Watch for the wind paths near special trees, which can offer additional mobility.
5. Don’t Go Solo
New players might think splitting up gives them an edge, but it’s generally better to stick with your team. Nightreign challenges are balanced for groups, and you’ll need teammates to revive you if you fall. Plus, any items or weapons you earn while soloing might be out of reach for others. It’s much easier to tackle challenges as a coordinated team, especially in the early stages.
6. Prioritize Visiting Churches
Clearly marked on the map, churches are vital spots to visit during your expedition. Interacting with the altar in front of the Marika statue grants you bonus flask charges for healing! Typically, there are three churches available at the start of a run, so hit them all to prepare for the Day 3 Nightlord boss. Churches also contain crates filled with rare consumables to aid you in battle.
7. Seek a Site of Grace Before Facing Each Night’s Boss
Before heading to the final boss of the night, make sure to activate a Site of Grace. Often while rushing towards the boss, the closing circle will be hot on your heels. A brief detour for healing could be crucial since you’ll face tough waves of enemies, followed by the boss itself, without any checkpoints in the arena.
8. Revived Players Should Stick Together
If you go down, your best move is to crawl towards other fallen teammates. This setup allows any remaining players to revive you both with fewer resources. Quick revives are especially beneficial for team classes that can easily bring you back into the fight!
9. Explore the Map in Detail
Even though you might feel rushed, take a moment to press the Triangle/Y button on the map for detailed insights. This can reveal valuable information about nearby locations and items, enhancing your strategic choices.
10. Discover Secrets with Fort Maps
Inside fortified areas, you’ll often find maps that divulge local information—like where to find Scarabs for talismans. Look for the staircase leading up to the ramparts and follow it to a room with a map on a table. Interact with it for insights about your surroundings.
11. Pay Attention to Map Icons
When selecting a run and final boss at the Roundtable Hold, check the damage types effective against that boss. Once in Limveld, look for the same types marked on nearby enemy camps and fortresses. This is where you’ll find items or weapons that correspond to the boss’s weaknesses—ideal for your next encounter.
12. Check the Roundtable Hold Journal Regularly
After completing an expedition, you’re likely to receive a memory fragment for your character, unlocking parts of their backstory and new quests known as Remembrances. Completing these can yield exclusive and powerful relics, lore, and even new skins. If you’re struggling against a Nightlord, utilizing a new relic may give you the boost you need!
