Job From: Head of Business Development, Citi
Job To: CEO of HSBC Innovation Banking UK
HSBC UK has appointed Emily Turner as the new CEO of its Innovation Banking division, marking an important development in the UK’s banking and tech landscape.
Set to officially assume her role in February 2025 pending regulatory approval, Turner brings extensive expertise from her time at Citi, where she was instrumental in shaping innovation and investment strategies.
This appointment arrives at a pivotal moment for HSBC Innovation Banking, which has become a key player within the UK’s innovation sector. Currenly, the division supports almost 3,700 innovative businesses and funds across the UK and Europe, backed by a dedicated staff of more than 700 in the UK alone.
Turner’s impressive career includes founding and expanding Citi Ventures UK, as well as heading Citi’s Global Institutional Strategic Investing group. She has also played a crucial role in nurturing early-stage companies through Citi’s internal incubator and most recently served as Managing Director and Head of Business Development within Citi’s Client Organisation.
This move aligns seamlessly with HSBC’s ambitious growth strategy, particularly in technology, where the bank currently serves 80% of the tech companies listed on the FTSE100 and FTSE250. Turner succeeds Simon Bumfrey, who has been acting as Interim CEO and will revert to his position as Head of Technology and Life Sciences.
Upon accepting her new role, Turner expressed her excitement about continuing to build on the accomplishments of HSBC Innovation Banking, emphasizing the division’s strong history of supporting founders, businesses, and investors on their growth journeys.
