Digital Phablet – Lebanese singer Fadel Chaker surrenders after years of evading justice.
On Saturday, Lebanon’s National News Agency announced that singer Fadel Chaker turned himself into military intelligence after being on the run for years.
Sources close to Fadel Chaker informed Al Arabiya and Al Hadath that the Lebanese artist “surrendered himself to a Lebanese military intelligence unit at the Hisba checkpoint near the Ain al-Hilweh camp in southern Lebanon.”

Witnesses told Reuters they saw Fadel Chaker “walk from the Ain al-Hilweh camp to an army checkpoint near Hisba in Sidon.” He appeared composed and unbothered, engaging positively with friends. Additionally, reports indicated that three Lebanese army officers detained Fadel awaiting questioning.
In 2012, Fadel Chaker announced his retirement from singing and his intention to join the armed group “Al-Assir.” During the 2013 conflict between the Lebanese army and the group in Abra, he fled to the Ain al-Hilweh camp to avoid harm.
The Lebanese Permanent Military Court sentenced Fadel Chaker to two prison terms in 2020, despite his absence. He was charged with “interfering in terrorist activities” due to his support for extremist factions fighting the Lebanese Army.
In September 2017, Fadel was issued another military sentence while he was not present. This time, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and all his civil rights were revoked.
However, in a statement to the media last April, Fadel Chaker claimed he had “suffered injustice for more than thirteen years,” asserting that all allegations against him were politically motivated and lacked legal foundation.
He explained that law enforcement did not intend to arrest him when he entered the Ain al-Hilweh camp. Instead, he fled death threats, which led to unwarranted warrants and subsequent court rulings.
Years ago, the artist resumed some form of singing by releasing a few songs on his YouTube channel without performing live. His recent collaborations with his son Mohammed last summer received positive feedback from many fans.
