KARACHI – Pakistani actor Hamza Ali Abbasi recently shared how a question about the attire of Indian tennis player Sania Mirza, former wife of cricketer Shoaib Malik, shifted his perspective on Islam.
In a recent interview, Abbasi recounted that someone had asked the respected scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan if Mirza’s clothing aligns with Islamic principles.
The actor, known for his role in "Mann Mayal," praised the scholar’s response, stating, “I think his reply was spot on.” Maulana Khan said, “If Sania Mirza herself were to ask me about this, I would certainly provide guidance. However, unless she approaches me, who are you to comment on someone’s clothing? You can inquire about how women should dress according to Islamic teachings, but it’s inappropriate to judge another person’s outfit.”
Abbasi noted that this answer profoundly impacted him, leading him to realize that those who speak on Islam should refrain from commenting on others’ choices.
“I made a commitment to myself that I would not criticize anyone’s personal style and that if I ever do, it will only be for a constructive reason,” he stated.
A video clip of Abbasi discussing Sania Mirza’s clothing has gained significant attention on social media, with many users expressing their support for his opinion.
