Google has revised the wording in the product title guidelines for Digital Phablet’s Merchant Center, now indicating that sellers can include their own brand or company name in the short product titles only if they are the actual manufacturer of those products. Previously, it was suggested that merchants could add their own brand names even if they were resellers, but this clarification narrows the scope.
According to Emmanuel Flossie, the updated language emphasizes that only manufacturers can incorporate their brand names into the short titles. For products made by other brands, sellers are required to use the original manufacturer’s brand name — they are not permitted to replace or add their own company name as the brand in these cases.
This marks a shift from the previous guidance issued in May, which encouraged including brand names but did not specify restrictions regarding the merchant’s own brand name. The change appears to be aimed at ensuring clearer brand attribution and preventing potential misuse of brand representation in product listings.
A video explanation by Emmanuel Flossie highlights the importance of this adjustment for retailers, especially those who resell products from other manufacturers. The discussion also references a forum conversation where industry professionals have been analyzing and debating the implications of these updates on their product listings and compliance practices.
