A month ago, Digital Phablet reported that between May 13, 2025, and April 27, 2026, approximately 50 weeks, a logging error caused Search Console to misreport impressions. The platform has since updated its statement to confirm that the issue has now been resolved.
The full notification explained that the error prevented accurate reporting of impressions during that period. While the data for impressions, click-through rate (CTR), and average position were affected, click metrics remained unaffected. The logging issue only impacted data recording, not actual user clicks.
This update was first identified by Kenichi Suzuki on LinkedIn. It was then shared by Glenn Gabe on X, with a note that, despite the fix, there were no noticeable changes when reviewing impressions across different accounts.
John Mueller from Google clarified on Bluesky that the fix applies only to new data moving forward. Unfortunately, the historical data from the affected period will not be corrected or restored. This means that past impression counts during that timeframe are still likely inaccurate, and only new reports will reflect the corrected data. The ongoing discussion around this issue continues on professional forums and social media platforms.
