A Space Molly doll from a Chinese toy company has made history by becoming the first art toy to undertake a complete round-trip journey to space. The doll is now on display at the brand’s themed park in Beijing.
This Space Molly, crafted collaboratively by the toy maker and a rocket technology company, was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on January 12 aboard the Lihong-1 rocket developed by the aerospace firm. The rocket successfully returned to Earth after completing a suborbital flight test.
A company representative confirmed that the doll is now showcased at the amusement park in Beijing.
The partnership with the toy company aims to enhance public interest and modern relevance of the aerospace firm, according to the chief designer and project director of the rocket program. The collaboration seeks to leverage cultural consumption to generate online buzz around the concept of the “first space passenger” and to raise awareness about space tourism.
The aerospace company is a mixed-ownership enterprise primarily focused on developing rockets and providing launch services, including designing and manufacturing suborbital vehicles. Future plans include launching space tourism operations.
The company is preparing for a stock listing on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s sci-tech board, known as the Star Market, having already completed initial public offering counseling.
Currently, the firm is working on the Lihong-2 vehicle, a reusable rocket expected to be China’s first fully reusable space tourism vehicle. Capable of exceeding 30 flights, this rocket aims to make space tourism more accessible and sustainable.
