April 20 — A leading Chinese high-tech company specializing in radiation imaging has entered into a non-binding agreement with a Dubai-based firm to explore bringing its products to the Middle East and North Africa.
The memorandum outlines intentions to collaborate on regulatory pathways, market entry strategies, and clinical partnerships. This development follows Nanjing’s Nanovision receiving approval in China three months ago for its phased array computed tomography (CT) system.
“We’re excited to partner with a regional healthcare leader whose expertise and network will be crucial in delivering this innovative technology to providers and patients throughout the MENA region once all regulatory hurdles are cleared,” stated the company’s Chief Operations Officer.
The Nanjing-based company’s flagship product, the CompoundEye 24, was approved by China’s National Medical Products Administration at the end of 2022. It is the world’s first commercially cleared phased array CT system. The company is also actively pursuing approval within the European Union as part of its global expansion efforts.
In contrast to traditional CT machines that utilize rapid mechanical gantry rotation for imaging, the CompoundEye 24 employs an electronically controlled multi-source architecture. This allows for superior spatial resolution without moving parts and significantly reduces radiation exposure by over 50%, according to the company.
In August of the previous year, the device was trialed clinically at Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.
The Dubai-based firm was established in 2012 and was recently acquired in part by Abdul Latif Jameel Health, the healthcare division of a large conglomerate, in January 2024. The company primarily focuses on rare diseases and the specialty pharmaceutical sector across MENA and Turkey, partnering with companies like Novartis Gene Therapy. Medical imaging equipment has not traditionally been their focus.
The MENA region, home to over 500 million people, includes nations such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.
