Audi remains committed to uncompromising safety standards, having already fulfilled most of the new regulations, and actively supporting legislation aimed at enhancing industry safety. According to the president of its Chinese division, the brand prioritizes security above all.
The company depends on its two major partners, FAW Group and SAIC Motor, to deliver top-tier vehicles in China. It plans to innovate its flagship lineup next year by introducing new battery electric vehicles built on its jointly developed Premium Platform Electric with Porsche, along with models under SAIC-Audi’s new electric vehicle brand.
Recently, China’s Ministry of Public Security proposed draft regulations seeking public input on national standards for the technical safety requirements of motor vehicles. These standards include key provisions for new energy and assisted-driving vehicles, such as requiring zero to 60 miles per hour acceleration in no more than five seconds, ensuring passenger vehicles have at least two accessible doors for entry and exit, and mandating electric door handles be equipped with prominently marked emergency mechanical release handles.
In China, the brand has launched its largest product lineup ever, revealing five new locally produced models in the second half of this year. It is also undergoing a global brand transformation, launching its “Audi Agenda” last year with China as a central focus. Additionally, the company merged its software-defined vehicle and technology development teams in January to focus on developing new models driven by software innovations, and made staffing adjustments to its design team in June.
This year, the company introduced the E5 Sportback, marking the first model under its global brand, and the Q6 e-tron, the first vehicle built on the PPE platform, in the latter half of the year. Compared to traditional fuel-powered vehicles, foreign luxury automakers in China have lowered the starting prices of their electric vehicles, with models from Audi and Mercedes-Benz available at approximately CNY 250,000 (around USD 35,330).
