Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, serves as a strategic gateway for Chinese companies aiming to expand into larger regional markets. The two regions share a strong foundation for collaboration rooted in common values, according to Khaled Al Fahim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Family Business Council.
“Abu Dhabi is within four hours of at least 800 million people, making us a gateway to a substantial market,” Al Fahim remarked during the Abu Dhabi Finance Week, which concludes today. “We have a significant presence in Africa through the Abu Dhabi ecosystem, which could serve as an excellent starting point for many Chinese companies interested in moving into or expanding within the region.”
Founded in 1958, Al Fahim Group is among the UAE’s most successful family-run enterprises, with business interests spanning automotive, real estate, energy, and travel, as mentioned on the company’s website.
The number of Chinese companies establishing operations in Abu Dhabi this year has increased by 60 percent compared to last year, according to Al Fahim. He also serves as a board member of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Alongside other local family businesses, Al Fahim Group is partnering with Chinese firms to support their regional expansion efforts.
China has made considerable advancements in research and development, with notable progress in healthcare, agricultural technology, mobility, and financial technology. Abu Dhabi offers capital, infrastructure, and energy resources, creating opportunities for wide-ranging collaborations, Al Fahim explained.
“There are strong parallels between us when it comes to establishing legacy, building long-term relationships, and fostering trust,” he noted. “We share many core values that can serve as a foundation for joint ventures with Chinese partners.”
He also emphasized the importance of Chinese companies finding suitable local partners. “This is a great time with tremendous opportunities to grow beyond our borders and enter new markets together,” he added.
