When starting your adventure in Of Ash And Steel, you’ll first control Tristan, the cartographer, who is on the shore of Grayshaft. There are several main quests you can complete in any order, most of which involve helping other crew members around the camp.
Once you take control of Tristan, you’ll quickly notice Sirdar, the first character you can talk to. When speaking with him, you’ll mention that you’re feeling seasick from the journey. He will tell you to check with the crew’s doctor, Emmett. Finishing your chat with Sirdar will start the quest called The Hardships of Seafaring.
Talk To The Doctor
Sirdar will tell you to speak with Emmett, but he doesn’t give clear directions on where to find him. Luckily, the camp is small, so you can either go down the path behind Sirdar or walk around the camp to find Emmett. He’ll be inside a small stall near some glowing mushrooms.
Most of the quests on the shore can be done at the same time, so don’t worry about completing one before starting another. Many of them overlap, so it’s best to start all of them and then proceed step-by-step. Be aware, though, that finishing the quest What Use is a Cartographer will end your time on the shore—so it’s best to do it last.
Currently, Emmett is dealing with a lot of issues involving other crew members and isn’t very interested in your seasickness. However, he will offer to help if you fetch some brandy from his chest, which he can use to aid the sailors.
Fetch The Brandy
Emmett will give you the key to his chest, but he doesn’t tell you where it is. You’ll need to look carefully. The chest is located next to where you first woke up on the island, near Sirdar. It’s under a small makeshift cover. To open it, you just use the key Emmett gave you. Inside, you’ll find three bottles of brandy, an apple, and you’re free to take any of them.
After getting the brandy, take it back to Emmett. Tristan will notice that Emmett probably doesn’t need all three bottles, so it’s best to only give him one.
There is also a sailor on the shore named Rower, who will ask if you have anything to drink. If you still have some brandy, you can offer him a bottle. If you do, he will tell you where to find the armor kit he stole from Emmett. Returning the armor kit will make Emmett give you the Rutmane needed for Squid.
Once you’ve given Rower the brandy, he’ll ask if you still need help or if you’re ready to go. Your response doesn’t matter much, but if you say you still need something, he’ll give you an item to help before sending you on your way.
Finally, talk to Sirdar again to finish the quest. He’ll ask a few questions you can answer honestly, and then he’ll boost your stats based on your answers. After that, the quest will end.
