Just one week after its launch, Pokémon TCG Pocket is already buzzing with events, including the exciting Lapras EX drop event. This event offers players the chance to collect five new promo cards, including Lapras EX, which can be integrated into custom decks for battles within the game.
The event will run from 1 AM on November 5, 2024, to 12:59 AM on November 18, 2024, in your local time zone. During this period, players can take part in exclusive battles to unlock Lapras EX and the other promo cards. Keep in mind that getting these cards isn’t guaranteed on your first attempt, so be sure to utilize the entire event duration to increase your chances.

Compete in Event Solo Battles
Once the event is live, go to the battle tab at the bottom of your screen. If the event is active, you will see a notification under the Solo Battle option that reads “Event underway!” Opening that section will show a new category for the Lapras EX Drop Event, similar to other Solo Battle options.

You can participate in Solo Battles in Pokémon TCG Pocket as many times as you’d like. However, each time you battle and win against the Lapras EX deck, it will cost you Event Stamina. Once you’ve used up your five attempts, you’ll need to wait 12 hours for each one to recover or opt to use event hourglasses, which you can earn by defeating the Lapras deck and completing the challenges at each difficulty level.
You can earn a promo pack for winning against any difficulty of the Lapras deck. This means you can unlock all promo cards by continuously competing with the beginner difficulty. However, there are additional rewards available for each difficulty, so if those interest you, I’d recommend at least attempting those once.
To unlock the Lapras EX card, you’ll need to win the event’s solo battles. With each win, you’ll have the opportunity to receive a Promo Booster Pack that contains one of the five event promo cards. Keep in mind that you won’t know exactly which card you’ll get, and it’s possible to receive duplicates. Thus, you may need to defeat the Lapras deck multiple times to collect all the promo cards, including Lapras EX.
How to Beat the Lapras EX Deck
Build a Strong Electric Deck, Preferably with Pikachu EX
The decks you’ll encounter vary by difficulty level, but they are quite similar overall. The beginner version won’t include any EX cards while the expert version will feature several. No matter the version, your main challenges will be Lapras and Starmie, as they are the stars of this challenge. Fortunately, since this deck is mainly made up of water and a few normal-type Pokémon, you should be able to use the same electric deck across all difficulty levels.

While you’re free to create a custom Pokémon deck for this event in any configuration you like, you’ll want to include an electric deck featuring Pikachu EX, as advised in Ptcgradio‘s YouTube guide. This will give you a critical advantage, especially at the expert level. If creating a custom deck feels overwhelming, rental decks are also an option.
If you lack rental decks or do not possess Pikachu EX, you could still manage with an electric deck that excludes EX Pokémon, as the beginner and intermediate levels don’t utilize EX cards. However, I wouldn’t recommend attempting advanced levels without them.
If you decide to go the rental deck route, consider using the Pikachu EX deck or Lt. Surge Deck. While there are other electric-type rental decks available, such as Wigglytuff EX, they won’t give you the type advantage against water Pokémon, rendering them less effective than basic cards. Remember to keep the specific challenges in mind before heading into battle to maximize your completion rate.
