If you’ve enjoyed using Android 14 and are eager for what’s next, you’re in luck—Google is set to unveil Android 15 soon.

We are excited to announce the release of Android 15 and to make the source code available via the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Over the next few weeks, Android 15 will roll out to supported Pixel devices, followed by select models from Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi in the months to come.

– From the Google Android Developers Blog, September 2024

Owners of compatible Pixel devices can expect to receive the Android 15 update via an over-the-air download as soon as it launches. If you don’t want to wait for the official update, you can join the Android 15 Quarterly Platform Release (QPR) beta program for early access to the latest features. For current participants of the QPR beta on supported Pixel devices, the initial Android 15 QPR beta update may already be available. If you prefer to exit the beta program without erasing your device, it’s best to hold off on installing the beta. Instead, simply wait for the stable release to arrive on your Pixel device, and once you have that, you can exit the beta without losing any data, as long as you don’t install any subsequent beta updates.

To celebrate this launch, Google’s Android team has revealed an impressive Android 15 statue in Mountain View, showcasing the iconic green robot relaxing on a bench while wearing a red T-shirt and holding a large ice cream cone. Google emphasizes that open-source technology allows anyone to engage with and enhance Android, resulting in a wider variety of creative and innovative devices. Developers can utilize their skills in Android Studio alongside Jetpack Compose to create outstanding applications that function seamlessly across the Android ecosystem. Moreover, the source code is accessible for those interested in exploring the intricacies of Android’s design.

With Android 15, Google continues its commitment to providing a secure and private platform that boosts productivity and introduces new features for crafting stunning apps, enhancing media and camera performance, and streamlining the user interface—especially for tablets and foldable devices. We’ll have to reserve our judgments and see how well these promises hold up in practice.
