Social media platform X experienced a widespread outage on Friday, preventing users around the world from accessing the service, according to internet monitoring service NetBlocks.
As of 10:35 a.m. ET in the U.S., more than 41,000 user reports indicated issues with the platform, according to Downdetector, which compiles outage reports from various sources, as reported by Reuters. In the UK, roughly 8,000 incidents were reported, while India saw over 2,400 problems.
NetBlocks posted on X, stating, “X is experiencing international outages again; this incident is not related to country-specific internet disruptions or filtering.”
Reports of difficulties spiked around 8 p.m. local time, with Downdetector recording a significant increase in complaints, suggesting possible issues with X, the platform’s monitoring site noted.
Cloudflare provided an update at 9:21 p.m., confirming they had identified a problem with Magic Network Monitoring Data, which could cause users to see blank or empty data on dashboards. The company said it was actively working to resolve the issue. Earlier, at 8 p.m., Cloudflare noted scheduled maintenance was underway, which might reroute traffic from affected areas and cause slight delays for users.
No official statement has been issued by X regarding the cause or expected timeline for resolving the outage. Earlier this week, X experienced a separate disruption, with thousands of users worldwide reporting difficulties accessing the platform, according to Downdetector.
