The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced an exciting opportunity for scientists, researchers, and students to submit experimental proposals for Pakistan’s inaugural manned mission to the China Space Station (CSS), set for 2026.
This initiative represents a significant leap forward in space science and international collaboration, as SUPARCO invites groundbreaking ideas for experiments to be conducted in microgravity aboard the CSS. This venture marks a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s space exploration history, with the country planning to send its first astronaut into orbit in collaboration with China.
SUPARCO is seeking innovative proposals across several scientific disciplines, including biotechnology, space life sciences, fluid dynamics, material science, and astrophysics. To qualify, experiments should introduce new and original concepts that can be completed within one week. They must also be lightweight, cost-effective, and manageable for a single astronaut on the mission.
All research should align with the technical capabilities of the CSS and must not duplicate any experiments previously performed on the International Space Station (ISS). SUPARCO emphasizes that priority will be given to projects that aim to support sustainable development goals.
Currently, the China Space Station orbits the Earth in an elliptical path inclined at 41.5 degrees to the equator, at an altitude of approximately 380 kilometers. It completes an orbit every 92 minutes while traveling at a speed of around 7.7 kilometers per second.
SUPARCO has characterized this initiative as a remarkable chance for the Pakistani community, particularly within academic and scientific circles, to engage actively in cutting-edge space research. The deadline for submitting proposals is April 30.
