TikTokers are usually frequently seen taking spoons of this dried, liquid, or gummy algae from pricey shops.

While a large number of users call it beneficial for health due to its rich mineral contents. Health experts question its nutritional value compared to standard vegetables and fruits.

Miranda Galati, a Canadian dietitian told media outlets that the algae may have some health benefits but those health benefits are not supported by research.

Sea moss or chondrus crispus may be linked to an improved immune system, gut, and thyroid. But Sea moss supplements pose a health risk due to the variability in iodine, which can lead to hypothyroidism or under-active thyroid.

Furthermore, sea moss can also cause allergic reactions or gastrointestinal symptoms and can also contain toxic heavy metals because of its ability to store and absorb toxic substances.

According to Galati, one must consult nutrition before adding any superfood supplement to your diet. She further advised that anyone pregnant, suffering from health issues, nursing, or over 65 should never eat sea moss.
