Is Facebook ‘Really’ Planning To Change Its Name and Why?

Mark Zuckerberg is changing the name of Facebook to focus more on building the metaverse.

Company CEO Mark Zuckerberg is planning to reveal the potential name change on October 28, 2021. The rebrand will likely be blue to keep up with the company branding, just like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Oculus.

Digital Phablet reached out to Facebook, but they haven’t replied to the question yet.

In July 2021, Zuckerberg had told media that he would soon be transitioning from being Social Media website to being a metaverse.

Why mark is Zuckerberg changing the name of Facebook?

Currently, Facebook is under a lot of scrutinies for how social media operates. This rebrand will be in Zuckerberg’s favor. Even if social media comes under investigation, it will not damage the face of other apps.

Because right now, If facebook comes under scrutiny, It also drops shares for the other apps. To save that, the rebrand was the only answer Zuckerberg could think of.

Facebook isn’t the only company in the tech industry to change its name. Previously Google changed the name of their parent company to Alphabet while making Google.com just a “search engine

Facebook is indeed more than just a search engine now, considering the extensive innovation in the tech industry. Facebook is also planning to hire 10,000 employees to work on the metaverse in Europe.

What is Metaverse?

Meta in the metaverse means “Beyond” and verse means “Universe” the term is used to describe the concept of future internet that is made up of 3D virtual spaces (such as AR), where people can meet, have fun, and buy-sell through augmented reality. Facebook has been using the term “metaverse” quite a lot.
