While I usually prefer an unprotected iPhone experience with no case or screen protector, I’ve found that both are quite enjoyable on the iPhone 17 Pro and highly recommend trying them out without long-term commitment—especially given their affordability.
Apple first introduced Ceramic Shield glass to the iPhone screens five years ago, promising four times better drop resistance and fewer cracked displays. Although I haven’t shattered my screen yet, I’ve noticed I tend to get a few deep scratches after a year of use. The latest iteration, Ceramic Shield 2, claims to be three times more resistant to scratches, which I’m eager to test to prevent those deeper blemishes.
Apple also enhances the front panel’s anti-glare properties, reducing reflections, though it still falls short compared to Nano Texture finishes found on iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models.
To make the display more matte, I use a matte glass screen protector that I’ve tried before and liked. It provides a nice anti-glare surface, although it introduces a slight rainbow effect and reduces brightness compared to nano-texture options, which I find less ideal.
For protection in activities like kayaking or when mounting the device on a motorcycle handlebar, I usually opt for a minimal case. The clear cases from Apple work well, but I find their design less appealing for the Pro version this year. If I were to use a case daily, I’d consider Apple’s new TechWoven model, though the color options don’t excite me yet.
My current favorite is a gray Spigen Thin Fit case I stumbled upon in a retail shop. It offers a sleek, metallic look with a smooth feel, fitting the minimal aesthetic I wanted. Priced at $39.99, it’s available on Spigen’s website, though Amazon often offers it for a few dollars less.
Many cheaper cases lack MagSafe compatibility, limiting their usefulness with battery packs and magnetic mounts. The Spigen Thin Fit includes MagSafe compatibility and a capacitive camera control cover—a noticeable upgrade over standard cutouts. It also fully covers the camera bump, which reassures me about durability.
This case’s orange accents subtly highlight the device’s line of sight with the Space Black Apple Watch Ultra’s digital crown, creating a cohesive, futuristic look. The orange coloring also appears around the buttons, adding a stylish contrast to the gray chassis while hiding the orange aluminum border around the display, which can be distracting when exposed through a minimal case.
For added protection without bulk, I recommend a product like the Mothca matte glass protector for anti-glare benefits and scratch resistance.
In terms of accessories, I’d suggest the Mothca screen protector for its scratch defense and anti-glare features, along with the Spigen Thin Fit case for a sleek, metallic aesthetic without excess bulk. The combination enhances your iPhone’s durability and style while keeping it functional and looking sharp.
