Tim Cook Says iPhone 17 Demand Surpasses Expectations

During the recent quarterly earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook briefly addressed the availability of the iPhone 17 series. He deliberately avoided providing specific details about the sales performance of individual models but indicated that demand for the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro remains robust.

In the discussion about supply issues, Cook revealed that the supply chain for the iPhone 17 continues to face constraints, which suggests that consumer interest has exceeded Apple’s initial expectations. This observation is consistent with analyst reports highlighting positive early feedback and increased production orders across the entire lineup.

Notably, the iPhone Air received minimal mention during the call and appears to be approaching the end of its production cycle, while the more premium models, including the iPhone 17 and Pro, are seeing higher manufacturing demands. When questioned about the performance of each model, Cook emphasized that Apple does not publicly disclose sales figures by device and acknowledged that he was intentionally avoiding the specifics. He also hinted that the higher-end and entry-level versions are facing supply constraints, which could imply weaker performance for the iPhone Air.

Additionally, Cook pointed out that demand for the iPhone 16 remained strong during the quarter, as Apple continued to face supply constraints across the board. He further suggested that Apple could have sold more units of the previous generation if supply allowed. The quarter wrapped up on September 27, just as the new iPhone 17 was beginning to reach customers, and Apple reported revenues of approximately $102.47 billion, marking an 8% increase year-over-year.
