A few days ago, Adobe addressed the delays in updating its Indigo camera app for iPhone 17 compatibility. The latest version now runs on the newest devices, though some limitations still exist. Here’s a summary of what’s been achieved and what remains pending.
With the release of the iPhone 17 series, Apple introduced the new Center Stage front camera. This feature dynamically shifts between portrait and landscape modes depending on the subject’s position within the frame. Additionally, the rear cameras received both hardware and software enhancements, broadening support for professional workflows.
Adobe launched Project Indigo several months ago, an app offering comprehensive manual controls including focus, ISO, shutter speed, white balance (adjustable via temperature and tint), and exposure compensation. However, updating Indigo to fully support the new iPhone 17 models proved challenging. Some obstacles stem from iOS bugs, which Apple is expected to resolve with the upcoming iOS 26.1 update.
A recent statement from Adobe explained the situation:
“Thanks for your patience regarding iPhone 17 support. We’re actively working on it but encountered issues, particularly with the front camera. We’ve reported these to Apple, who plan to fix them in iOS 26.1. Until then, we might have to disable the front camera in Indigo. Meanwhile, we’ve improved compatibility with iOS 26 on all devices. We anticipate releasing an update soon that will support the rear cameras of the iPhone 17 series.”
Following this, Adobe released an update that provides initial compatibility with the iPhone 17 lineup. Nevertheless, some features await the official release of iOS 26.1, which will enable full functionality. The company announced:
“Great news: support for the iPhone 17-series is finally here! After significant effort, Indigo can now run on these devices.
• Support for the front camera will be added once iOS 26.1 is released, fixing a bug needed for front camera operation.
• If you upgraded to the iPhone 17 immediately, you might have missed version 1.0.3, which included numerous updates and new features. Check the App Store for detailed release notes.
• We’ve included a new questionnaire in the app settings to gather user feedback, helping us improve Indigo for passionate mobile photographers.”
Known issues on iPhone 17 devices include:
– The front-facing camera remains disabled but will be enabled in the next update once iOS 26.1 is available.
– Low-light photo captures may be noisy when ISO is high; using Night mode or lowering ISO below 500 is recommended.
– Auto Exposure might flicker under low-light conditions.
– On iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, 4× telephoto images can display a brighter band at the bottom of the picture.
