The arrival of new iPhones brings fresh benchmarks for Apple Silicon, and we have just seen the first benchmark results for the A18 chip on Geekbench, highlighting some moderate performance improvements.

The benchmark results, posted this morning on Geekbench, indicate an approximate 10% increase in single-core performance compared to the A17 Pro, which aligns well with prior expectations. Notably, during the launch of the A18 chip, Apple refrained from making direct comparisons with the A17 series.

Interestingly, the multi-core performance appears rather low, similar to that of the A16 Bionic chip, and approximately 8% slower than the A17 Pro. This discrepancy is likely an anomaly, as Apple has stated that the A18 chip is designed to be around 30% faster than the A16 in the iPhone 15. It’s clear that there is something unusual at play here, and we will provide updates when more reliable multi-core performance data becomes available.

The reported Geekbench scores originate from an iPhone17,3 model, which corresponds to the iPhone 16—excluding the Plus, Pro, or Pro Max variants. This suggests that the A18 chip may indeed perform better in these higher-end models, particularly in the A18 Pro variant.

During the “It’s Glowtime” keynote yesterday, Apple introduced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, both equipped with the new A18 and A18 Pro chips. These processors utilize a second-generation 3nm technology, similar to the recently launched M4 chip found in the iPad Pro. Customers can begin preordering these devices this Friday, with shipments commencing on September 20th.
