The countdown to Apple’s iPhone 17 event is almost over, but speculation continues to spill as new leaks surface. A document allegedly originating from a South Korean carrier has revealed some technical details about the upcoming iPhone 17 models.
For some time, there have been rumors suggesting that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max would feature enhanced telephoto lenses. This leaked information confirms that these models could offer an optical zoom of up to 8x, a significant upgrade from the 5x zoom present on the iPhone 16 Pro series. Additionally, the devices are expected to incorporate a substantially improved cooling system.
All iPhone 17 models will feature a new aluminum frame, which should aid in heat dissipation due to aluminum’s excellent thermal conductivity. More notably, the Pro variants are anticipated to include a new vapor chamber cooling technology. This system, already employed in some premium Android devices, works by efficiently dispersing heat away from the CPU and GPU. This enhancement allows the processor to maintain peak performance for extended periods before thermal throttling occurs.
Such cooling improvements would translate to sustained high-performance gaming sessions, longer outdoor recording of ProRes videos, and enhanced handling of intensive tasks. The documentation also references an 8K video recording mode, which would particularly benefit from improved thermal management to handle prolonged recording durations.
This information was first shared by Jukan on X (formerly Twitter). However, it remains uncertain whether the leak is officially verified, as sometimes carriers prepare preliminary documentation based on leaks and rumors.
The official announcement is expected to happen in just over two days during Apple’s highly anticipated September event. Stay with 9to5Mac for comprehensive coverage of all the reveals—believing that new iPhone 17 models, updated Apple Watch iterations, and AirPods Pro 3 may be on the horizon.
