September marks the end of summer and the start of a hectic fall schedule for Apple enthusiasts. Over the coming weeks, several significant events are anticipated, with the most notable being the iPhone 17 launch event scheduled for September 9.
On Tuesday, September 9, at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET, Apple will conduct its traditional fall keynote at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park. Expectations include unveiling the new iPhone 17 series, which may feature the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air, along with the latest Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3. The presentation is also likely to introduce fresh accessories such as the updated AirPods Pro 3, TechWoven iPhone cases, crossbody straps for iPhone 17 cases, and a redesigned Apple Clear Case. Along with hardware updates, new watch bands with enhanced styles and color options are anticipated.
Following the event, coverage from reporters on the scene, including myself and Chance Miller, will provide in-depth hands-on impressions of the new devices, soon after the livestream concludes.
On the same day, expect the release of beta candidates for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, likely around 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET. Xcode Release Candidates are also anticipated simultaneously, and the App Store Connect should open for app submissions for iOS 26 later that afternoon. During the keynote, Apple is also expected to reveal the official release dates for these software updates, along with updates for HomePod and AirPods.
Preorders for the iPhone 17 series and new Apple Watch models are expected to open early on Friday, September 12, at 5 a.m. PT/8 a.m. ET. Carriers are expected to promote new trade-in deals beforehand, and users enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program can complete pre-approvals in the days leading up to preordering.
The new devices are anticipated to launch in stores on Monday, September 19, marking the beginning of in-store sales. Customers who preordered should receive their devices around this time, and Apple Stores are expected to see early-morning crowds. Software updates, such as iOS 26.0.1, are likely to arrive before the end of September, with beta versions of iOS 26.1 possibly available later in the month.
Looking beyond September, October remains a possibility for another Apple event, although hardware updates via press releases are also plausible. Rumors suggest potential updates to the iPad Pro with an M5 chip, a new M4 or M5 version of the Apple Vision Pro headset, and possibly M5 configurations of the MacBook Pro, which could be released in 2025 or even pushed into spring 2026. Throughout September, further details and leaks are expected to shed light on these upcoming products.
Historically, the launch of new iPhones ignites speculation about future models, with rumors hinting at a foldable iPhone for 2026 inspired by the design of the iPhone 17 Air. Stay tuned for more updates and breaking news from 9to5Mac as the month progresses.
