On Thursday, the social media platform X (previously known as Twitter) experienced a widespread outage, preventing thousands of users from accessing the app, website, or their feeds, based on reports from users.
Initial reports of the outage started around noon on March 26, with users seeing error messages when trying to load the homepage or refresh their timelines. According to Downdetector, nearly 19,000 problem reports were submitted at the peak of the disruption, with about half of those complaints related to difficulty loading the timeline or feed.
By 12:44 p.m., however, the number of problem reports had decreased significantly, dropping to just 163. Visitors to the official site were shown a message indicating they were “experiencing an error.”
The cause behind this relatively brief outage has not yet been publicly disclosed, and the company has not issued an official statement regarding the issue.
