Universal Pictures has released the initial teaser for Wolf Man, an upcoming horror film featuring Christopher Abbott in the iconic role of the monster.

In a spine-chilling moment of the teaser, Abbott’s character’s daughter hauntingly asks, “Daddy, is that you?” just before he transforms into the Wolf Man, bringing terror upon those around him. Throughout the 70-second clip, anxious voices speculate on the identity of their unseen stalker. Although the complete form of the Wolf Man remains shrouded in mystery, hints of his transformation emerge amid the desperate cries for survival from the other characters.

Alongside Abbott, Wolf Man also features Julia Garner, Sam Jaeger, and rising star Matilda Firth.

This new take on Wolf Man serves as a reboot of the classic 1941 Universal monster film of the same name, originally starring Lon Chaney Jr. as Larry Talbot, the infamous Wolf Man. The film is part of Universal’s classic monster franchise, which includes iconic stories of Dracula, the Mummy, and Frankenstein’s monster.

Directed by Leigh Whannell, the film’s screenplay is crafted by the talented team of Whannell, Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum, and Rebecca Angelo. Whannell is known for his collaborations with James Wan on hits like Saw and Insidious. He made his directorial debut in 2015 with Insidious: Chapter 3, and has since directed Upgrade in 2018 and The Invisible Man in 2020.

Initially, Ryan Gosling was set to portray the Wolf Man, with Derek Cianfrance on board to write and direct. However, both departed the project in 2023, although Gosling retains an executive producer credit for Whannell’s version.

Produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions, the film also sees Whannell, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, and Mel Turner serving as executive producers.

Wolf Man is set to premiere in theaters on January 17, 2025.
