Both Squarespace and Google Domains will benefit from the acquisition of Google Domains. Advertising and search are Google’s core businesses. As a one-stop shop for building and managing websites, Squarespace aims to expand its offerings.

In the second half of 2023, the deal is expected to close. Squarespace will begin serving Google Domains customers after the deal closes.

Why did Google sell Google Domains?

The sale of Google Domains may have been motivated by several factors;

  • Focus on core businesses. The Google company has a wide variety of businesses. Advertising and search have been at the center of the company’s focus in recent years. It allows Google to devote more resources to its core businesses by selling Google Domains.
  • Squarespace is a good fit. It is well known and respected in the website building industry that Squarespace builds websites. As a result of the company’s successful track record and loyal customer base, the company has achieved great success. Google Domains is a good fit for Squarespace.
  • The deal is financially attractive. The sale of Google Domains is likely to generate substantial financial gains for Google. In addition, Google will be able to pursue other strategic opportunities and invest in its core businesses.

What does this mean for Google Domains customers?

The sale is unlikely to have any significant effects on Google Domains customers. It has been announced that Squarespace plans to continue to offer the same services and features as Google Domains.

The way Google Domains is operated may, however, undergo some minor changes. Squarespace, for example, may choose to handle customer inquiries through its own customer support team.

It was a positive development for both companies that Google Domains was sold to Squarespace. Google can dedicate resources to other areas while focusing on its core businesses. Furthermore, Squarespace is able to expand its website creation and management offerings as a result.
