WhatsApp is experimenting with a new feature that lets new group members see previous chat messages and get instant updates. When someone joins a group, they can view messages shared before their entry. Group admins also have the option to share the past week’s chat history with newcomers, ensuring they stay informed. This feature helps new members quickly catch up on ongoing conversations, while admins can control this setting within the group options.
Currently, the feature displays chat activity from the past 24 hours, though the exact timeframe might change before the full rollout. To avoid excessive data consumption, Meta could limit the history to around 1,000 messages. The goal is to make group chats more seamless, transparent, and inclusive.
In addition, WhatsApp has revamped its status sharing, allowing users to post short-term updates in a more straightforward and engaging manner. This update makes it easier to see when contacts are active without opening separate screens.
WhatsApp is also rolling out an AI-driven image editing tool to beta users on Android. This tool enables users to create images with 3D effects, Anime, Cartoon, Watercolor styles, and more. It also offers features such as background removal and modifications.
Despite these new features, WhatsApp continues to prioritize security. A new strict security mode, available to select beta testers, automatically blocks media from unknown sources, silences calls from strangers, limits group invitations, and enforces two-step verification.
