Numerous fatalities have occurred throughout the Middle East since the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28. Gulf nations with U.S. military presence, along with Lebanon, quickly found themselves embroiled in the conflict.
Here’s a breakdown of the reported death tolls from various countries as of March 9, over a week after the conflict began. Note that Reuters has not confirmed these figures independently.
Iran reports at least 1,230 deaths, including 175 schoolgirls and staff killed during a missile strike on a primary school in Minab, in the southern part of the country, on the war’s first day. It remains unclear if these totals include casualties among the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The Iranian military states that 104 individuals died last week after a U.S. submarine sank an Iranian warship near Sri Lanka; these casualties are not part of the Red Crescent’s count.
Israel’s military reports two soldiers killed in southern Lebanon, marking the first casualties among its troops since hostilities with Hezbollah reignited last week following an attack by the group in support of Iran. Additionally, eleven civilians have perished, including nine in an Iranian missile attack on Beit Shemesh near Jerusalem on March 1.
The U.S. military confirms seven service members have been killed while conducting operations against Iran.
Lebanon has seen at least 394 fatalities, including 83 children, according to its health ministry, mostly resulting from Israeli airstrikes.
In Saudi Arabia, two individuals lost their lives when a projectile struck a residential area in Al-Kharj, southeast of Riyadh.

Syria reports four casualties from an Iranian missile strike on a building in Sweida on February 28.
Iraq has experienced at least 15 deaths, with reports indicating that an Iranian-backed armed group commander was killed in an airstrike on March 5.
