The UAE authorities have recently shut down 230 social media accounts involved in a widespread crackdown on fraudulent job advertisements. These fake posts lured people with promises of job opportunities in Dubai and other parts of the UAE, then allegedly took money from victims under the guise of processing fees, visas, or recruitment services that never existed.
These accounts operated without proper authorization or licenses, violating UAE laws that prohibit promoting employment opportunities without official approval. The authorities have warned that individuals running such scam accounts face fines between 20,000 and 100,000 dirhams (approximately $5,400–$27,000), along with potential prison sentences of up to six months.
The government advises job seekers to verify vacancies through official channels and licensed recruitment agencies, emphasizing the importance of avoiding money transfers in response to online job offers. This crackdown is part of broader efforts to combat online fraud and safeguard the country’s labor market against exploitation and misinformation.
