Multiple individuals were hospitalized following a series of stabbing incidents on a train near Cambridge in eastern England on Saturday. Two men have been detained in connection with the attacks, which Prime Minister Keir Starmer described as an “appalling incident.”
Authorities from British police and emergency medical services stated that several victims were stabbed while the train was stopped at Huntingdon. Video footage circulating on social media showed armed officers entering the train carriage.
Cambridgeshire police reported receiving a call around 7:39 p.m. GMT about multiple stabbings on a train.
“Armed officers responded, and the train was halted at Huntingdon, where two men were taken into custody. Several people have been transported to hospitals,” police stated.
The East of England Ambulance Service dispatched a large emergency response to Huntingdon Railway Station, including numerous ambulances and critical care teams, with three air ambulances among the responders.
“We can confirm that multiple patients have been taken to hospitals,” the service announced.
An eyewitness told Sky News that one of the suspects, wielding a large knife, was tasered by police.
Prime Minister Starmer took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his concern about the incident, stating, “This is deeply troubling.” He added, “My thoughts are with everyone affected, and I thank the emergency services for their quick response.”
