WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has added new plaques along the “Presidential Walk of Fame” on the White House’s West Wing Colonnade. These plaques feature sharp, pointed satire targeting recent U.S. presidents. Visitors and journalists first spotted these additions Wednesday, sparking renewed discussion among political insiders.
One plaque labels Joe Biden as “Sleepy Joe Biden” and claims he’s “the worst president in American history.” Interestingly, Biden’s face is omitted from the display; instead, a framed autopen signature of Biden is shown. Barack Obama’s plaque tags him as “Barack Hussein Obama,” proclaiming him “one of the most divisive political figures in American history.”
Another plaque beneath Bill Clinton’s portrait notes that “in 2016, President Clinton’s wife, Hillary Clinton, lost the presidency to Donald J. Trump.” The White House states that several of these plaques were authored by Trump himself, reflecting his broader effort to reshape the White House’s public image in line with his political perspective.
The Presidential Walk of Fame, officially inaugurated outside the Oval Office in September, features portraits of all U.S. presidents except Biden. Trump has previously made major changes at the White House, including replacing the Rose Garden grass with a stone patio and commissioning a new ballroom that involved demolishing part of the East Wing.
Experts believe these plaques mark an unprecedented moment in U.S. history, being the first time such overtly political and controversial stories about past presidents are displayed prominently inside the White House. Expect more reactions and debate in the days ahead.
