US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he assured Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi there would be no conflict with Pakistan. He emphasized his efforts to prevent multiple disputes through diplomatic channels and economic pressures.
During Diwali celebrations in the Oval Office, Trump greeted the Indian people warmly and shared that he had spoken with Modi earlier that day. The conversation was described as positive, with discussions centered around trade and efforts to avoid war, especially between India and Pakistan. Trump highlighted that trade played a significant role in easing regional tensions and proudly noted that there are currently no hostilities between the two nations. He also personally praised Modi, calling him “a great person” and acknowledging their developing friendship over the years.
Trump claimed that he has played a role in stopping eight potential wars through negotiations and trade strategies, including a conflict between Pakistan and India. He recounted that during a tense period, the shooting down of seven planes prompted him to reach out to both countries, warning that the U.S. would cease all trade if they went to war. Following his intervention, both nations backed down within 24 hours.
He also touched on energy matters, revealing that Modi assured him India would curb its oil imports from Russia, aligning with U.S. efforts to pressure Moscow over its Ukraine invasion. Trump reiterated his stance on imposing tariffs on Indian exports that purchase Russian crude, part of his broader strategy to influence global energy markets and political negotiations.
