During the UN General Assembly, President Donald Trump met with leaders from prominent Muslim-majority nations, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The discussion centered mainly around the ongoing crisis in Gaza and broader regional issues.
Representatives from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Egypt, the UAE, and Jordan attended the meeting.
The session lasted approximately 50 minutes. Trump expressed his honor in meeting with the heads of Islamic countries and praised their collective efforts, stating, “You all have performed remarkably well, which is truly commendable.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described the conversations as highly productive. After the meeting, none of the other Muslim leaders made public statements.
According to U.S. media, Trump also shared plans for a phased Israeli withdrawal and post-conflict governance in Gaza that excludes Hamas. The United States is actively seeking agreements with Arab and Muslim nations to deploy troops to Gaza to facilitate Israel’s withdrawal and support the transition and rebuilding efforts, Axios reported.
Israel continues to face international criticism over its military actions in Gaza, where local health authorities report over 65,000 Palestinians have died. Recently, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government launched a prolonged ground offensive into Gaza City, with no ceasefire in sight.
Washington aims to secure agreement from Arab and Muslim countries to send peacekeeping forces to Gaza, enabling Israel’s withdrawal and aiding in reconstruction efforts, as reported by Axios.
Israel remains under global scrutiny for its conduct in Gaza amidst the escalating violence and humanitarian crisis.
