Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of Jeffrey Epstein, is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence in Tallahassee, Florida, after being convicted in 2021 of facilitating Epstein’s sexual abuses of underage girls. She’s presently appealing her conviction.
Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he has not given any thought to issuing a pardon or commutation for Maxwell. When questioned about the possibility, Trump responded, “It’s something I haven’t thought about. I’m allowed to do it, but it’s not on my mind right now.”
Amidst ongoing controversy, Trump faces increasing pressure from both supporters and critics to reveal more details about the Justice Department’s investigation into Epstein. Epstein, a disgraced financier, died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Earlier this year, Attorney General Pam Bondi pledged to release additional documents related to potential Epstein clients and the circumstances of his death. However, the Justice Department reversed course this month, concluding there was no basis to continue investigations or evidence of a client list, sparking backlash from supporters who believe the government is hiding Epstein’s connections to the wealthy and powerful.
Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche, a former Trump personal lawyer, met with Maxwell in Florida on Thursday and planned to see her again after reaching out to her attorneys. He indicated that the goal was to determine if she had information about individuals involved in criminal activities against victims. Trump, asked about Blanche’s meetings with Maxwell, claimed he was unaware of the details, only knowing they occurred.
He then shifted focus, suggesting that other prominent figures linked to Epstein should also be scrutinized. “They don’t talk about them. They talk about me. I have nothing to do with the guy,” Trump said.
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Trump appeared with Epstein at social events. His name appeared multiple times on flight logs for Epstein’s private plane during that period. Trump has denied ever boarding the plane and has not faced any charges related to Epstein or Maxwell.
