WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has stated that trade negotiations with China are progressing positively.
While at the White House, he conveyed optimism that the two nations might soon finalize a “very fair deal.”
His remarks followed extensive discussions between officials from both countries aimed at resolving their prolonged trade conflict.
“We’re making good progress with China. Things are going smoothly,” Trump told journalists.
“I believe it will turn out very well. We’re aligned on this, and I expect we’ll reach a very fair agreement with China.”
Earlier, representatives from the U.S. and China engaged in over five hours of talks in Stockholm on Monday, seeking to extend their agreement to pause a trade war by an additional three months.
China faces an August 12 deadline to secure a lasting tariff agreement with the Trump administration, following preliminary agreements in May and June to halt increasing tariffs and ensure the continued supply of rare earth minerals.
The Trump administration has already finalized trade agreements with the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Japan, and is currently negotiating with several other nations to expand its trade network.
