If you’re excited about soaring through the virtual skies in games like Microsoft Flight Simulator or Elite Dangerous, it’s time to set aside the mouse and keyboard. Thrustmaster has unveiled its new Sol-R 1 and Sol-R 2 flight sticks, specifically crafted for space-based flight experiences. These sticks are available for preorder and will officially launch on April 16, 2025.
Both models emphasize ergonomic design, featuring a palm rest on one side and a thumb rest on the opposite side. The rests can be swapped to cater to both right- and left-handed players. Each stick is equipped with two triggers, two hat switches, a thumbwheel, a miniature stick for precise control, and a base that boasts 44 buttons.
Offering three axes of movement—X, Y, and Z—players benefit from exact maneuverability, whether engaging in thrilling dogfights or navigating tricky environments. Furthermore, they can enjoy the visual appeal of 11 customizable RGB zones on the flight sticks.

The Sol-R 1 flight stick is compatible with Thrustmaster’s existing Viper and Hornet grips, and the company has indicated it will also support future grips as they are released.
The Sol-R 2 HOSAS setup provides an even more immersive flying experience, featuring two fully functional sticks with a staggering total of 88 buttons.
The pricing is set at $220 for the Sol-R 1, while the Sol-R 2 combo will run you $400. Though this may seem costly, it’s worth noting that premium flight sticks can go for much more. Thrustmaster’s offerings fall on the higher end of the price spectrum, especially compared to budget options that can be found for as low as $50, but they come packed with a range of advanced features that help to justify their cost.
