A failed robbery attempt in Rajasthan, India, turned into a scene straight out of a movie when a suspected thief got stuck inside a kitchen exhaust fan shaft, hanging helplessly for nearly an hour, reports India Today.
The event unfolded in Kota district at the home of Subhash Kumar Rawat, who was traveling on January 3. Authorities say the suspect had broken into the house during the night intending to steal valuables, but his escape plan went awry.
When Rawat and his wife returned around 1 a.m. and opened the main gate, they saw a scooter parked outside illuminating the house, and were shocked to find a man trapped mid-way through the kitchen’s exhaust fan opening. Part of his body was inside the house, while the rest dangled outside.
Officials clarified that the suspect had tried to squeeze through a narrow exhaust shaft but became firmly lodged, rendering him unable to free himself. The commotion drew the attention of a nearby accomplice, who fled the scene, leaving the man behind.
A crowd gathered as the bizarre scene persisted for about an hour. A widely circulated video shows the trapped man struggling to free himself with help from police officers, contributing to the incident’s notoriety on social media.
Sources say the suspects arrived in a vehicle with a police sticker to avoid suspicion. Emergency responders arrived, rescued the man from the shaft, and took him into custody.
Law enforcement has initiated an investigation to find the fleeing accomplice and determine if the arrested individual is linked to other thefts in the area.
