The latest episode of The Last of Us Season 2 delves into the aftermath of Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) tragic death, which left a significant impact on the community of Jackson. With Joel gone, the focus shifts to the overwhelming grief felt by Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey, particularly highlighted by an emotional scene involving a cherished item of Joel’s.
Upon returning home from the hospital, Ellie finds herself alone in a quiet house. She heads to Joel’s room and starts to sift through his belongings. When she comes across Joel’s jacket, the floodgates open, and she is overcome with tears. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ramsey shared that this poignant moment was one of the most challenging scenes for her to film.
“Oh God, in the closet, that was the hardest [scene],” Ramsey reflected. “I really struggle with crying in scenes. I can manage to squeeze out a tear, but crying is a whole different ball game. It’s difficult for me, especially with so many eyes on me. I rarely cry in front of others, and so approaching that scene on set full of people was daunting.” She further expressed, “I was really worried about it, and it turned out to be the toughest scene for me to shoot.”

Instead of concentrating on sad thoughts, Ramsey found herself recalling the “happiest of memories” with Pascal to trigger her emotions during the scene.
“The saddest moments for me stem from remembering the joyful times,” she described. “I thought about all the good moments we shared while shooting Season 1 and the laughter we had. Those memories of us, intertwined with the characters of Joel and Ellie, made it all the more poignant.”
In this episode, Ellie proposes sending a group from the town to Seattle in search of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), but her request is rejected by the council. Determined, Ellie and Dina proceed to Seattle themselves. Along their journey, they stumble upon a group of dead Seraphites, which leads them to suspect Abby and the WLF’s involvement. The episode concludes as Ellie and Dina arrive in Seattle with WLF members marching through the streets.
The next installment of The Last of Us Season 2 is set to air on Sunday, May 4.
